This stamp pays tribute to the remarkable life and legacy of Barbara Jordan. Born and raised in Houston, Jordan broke down numerous barriers throughout her career. Her powerful oratory and unwavering commitment to the U.S. Constitution gained her national recognition, particularly during the Watergate hearings. The portrait on the stamp, an oil painting by Albert Slark, captures her intelligence and strength of character. The First Day of Issue ceremony was held at Texas Southern University in Houston, Jordan's alma mater, a fitting tribute to a woman who inspired a nation.
