The stamp captures the breathtaking scale and design of Cincinnati Union Terminal, one of the last great train stations built in the United States. Its construction was a massive undertaking, consolidating the services of seven different railroads into one magnificent facility. The interior of the terminal is adorned with a series of large mosaic murals by Winold Reiss, depicting the history and industry of Cincinnati. During World War II, the terminal was a bustling hub for troop movements, with a USO lounge that served millions of service members. After the decline of passenger rail, the terminal was repurposed and is now home to the Cincinnati Museum Center, preserving this architectural treasure for future generations.
